01 / Problem

A successful backup job proves that data was written somewhere. It does not prove that the service can be recovered or that automation has a safe rollback point.

02 / Approach

Keep backup storage separate from compute, schedule jobs and checks, retain useful recovery points and treat periodic restore verification as the actual confidence signal.

03 / Current result

Automated backup workflows are running. Restore evidence and operational documentation are being strengthened as part of the wider Home-Ops work.

Abstract architecture / sensitive detail removed

Recovery is the product

Schedules, retention and monitoring matter, but the deliverable is a service that can be recovered with understandable steps. This project keeps backup operations deliberately separate from the public details of storage names, guest inventory and management access.

Notes to future me

What this project is teaching me.

  1. Job success and recoverability are not synonyms.
  2. Automation permissions should follow backup confidence.
